Starting counselling can feel like a big step. Whether you’re feeling nervous, unsure, or simply curious about what the process looks like, this page will help you understand what to expect when working together at Creating Your Balance Counselling Therapy (CYBCT).

My goal is to make the experience as comfortable, clear, and supportive as possible.

A Welcoming, Non‑Judgmental Space

Counselling is a place where you can slow down, breathe, and talk openly about what’s been weighing on you. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out. You set the pace, and I meet you exactly where you are.

You can expect:

  • A calm, grounded environment
  • Respect, compassion, and curiosity
  • Space to explore your thoughts and emotions safely
  • Support without judgment or assumptions

Your First Session

Your initial session is longer to give us time to get to know each other and understand what brings you to counselling.

During this session, we will:

  • Explore what you’re experiencing
  • Talk about your goals and hopes for counselling
  • Discuss what feels most important to you right now
  • Begin identifying patterns, challenges, and strengths
  • Answer any questions you may have about the process

There’s no need to prepare anything in advance — simply come as you are.

Ongoing Sessions

Follow‑up sessions are focused on deepening insight, building practical tools, and supporting meaningful change over time.

Together, we will:

  • Explore your emotions and experiences
  • Identify what’s working and what isn’t
  • Build strategies you can use in daily life
  • Work toward feeling more balanced and grounded

Counselling is collaborative. You’re not doing this alone — we move through it together.

Virtual Counselling Experience

If you’re attending sessions online, you’ll meet with me through JaneApp’s secure, encrypted video platform. It’s simple to use and designed specifically for healthcare.

Before each session, you’ll receive a link to join. All you need is:

  • A quiet, private space
  • A stable internet connection
  • A device with a camera

Many clients find virtual sessions more comfortable and accessible, especially when life feels busy or overwhelming.

How Often We Meet

Most clients attend weekly or bi‑weekly, depending on their needs, goals, and schedule. We’ll find a rhythm that feels right for you.

Your Privacy Is Protected

Your information is stored securely through JaneApp, a Canadian‑based platform that uses industry‑standard encryption. Everything you share in counselling is confidential, with a few rare exceptions required by law (which we’ll review together in your first session).

It’s normal to feel:
