Sometimes a conversation feels different when you're moving.

Not everyone feels most comfortable sitting across from a counsellor in an office.

For some people, walking side by side creates a more natural environment for conversation.

Walk & Talk counselling combines therapeutic conversation with gentle movement in an outdoor setting.

At Creating Your Balance Counselling Therapy, Walk & Talk sessions provide an alternative counselling environment for clients who find that being outdoors and moving while talking feels more comfortable and natural.

What Is Walk & Talk Counselling?

Walk & Talk counselling is a form of individual counselling where therapeutic conversation takes place while walking outdoors.

Rather than sitting in an office, you and your counsellor walk together in an agreed-upon outdoor location.

The counselling itself remains focused on your goals, concerns and wellbeing.

Walking simply changes the environment in which the conversation takes place.

Why Walk and Talk?

Some people find that walking can make conversation feel less formal.

You may appreciate:

  • A more relaxed environment
  • Being outdoors
  • Moving while talking
  • A change from a traditional counselling office
  • Having something natural to focus on while discussing difficult topics
  • A different pace for reflection and conversation

For some clients, the combination of movement and conversation can feel more comfortable than sitting face-to-face.

What Can We Talk About?

Walk & Talk counselling can be used to explore many of the same concerns addressed through individual counselling, including:

  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Anxiety
  • Low mood
  • Life transitions
  • Relationships
  • Men's mental health
  • Emotional regulation
  • Personal growth
  • Work and life balance

Your goals remain at the centre of the session.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Because Walk & Talk sessions take place outdoors, privacy is different from being inside a counselling office.

You may encounter other people while walking.

Before beginning Walk & Talk counselling, we'll discuss confidentiality, privacy and whether this format is appropriate for you.

Is Walk & Talk Right for You?

Walk & Talk may be a good option if you:

  • Prefer being outdoors
  • Find movement helpful while talking
  • Feel more comfortable walking side by side
  • Want an alternative to traditional office counselling
  • Enjoy a more active and natural counselling environment

Walk & Talk isn't appropriate for every situation, and we'll discuss whether it makes sense for your needs.

A Different Setting.

The Same Commitment to Your Wellbeing.

The location may change.

The counselling relationship doesn't.

You'll still have a private, collaborative opportunity to talk about what's happening in your life, identify what matters to you and work toward meaningful change.
