🌿 FAQs

Answers to common questions about counselling, virtual sessions, and working together.

What can I expect in my first session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll explore what brings you to counselling, what you’re hoping to work on, and what support feels most helpful for you right now. There’s no pressure to share everything at once — we move at a pace that feels comfortable.

How long are sessions?

A standard counselling session is 50 minutes. Extended sessions may be available upon request.

Do you offer virtual counselling?

Yes. I offer secure virtual counselling across Nova Scotia and most Canadian provinces and territories. All you need is a quiet space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera.

Is virtual counselling as effective as in‑person sessions?

Many clients find virtual counselling just as effective — sometimes even more so. Being in your own space can help you feel more grounded, comfortable, and open during sessions.

How often should I attend counselling?

Most clients attend weekly or bi‑weekly, but we’ll find a rhythm that works for your needs, goals, and schedule.

What issues do you support?

I work with individuals experiencing:

  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Anxiety and worry
  • Depression and low mood
  • Anger and frustration
  • Men’s mental health concerns
  • Life transitions
  • Emotional imbalance

If you’re unsure whether I can support your specific concern, feel free to reach out.

Is counselling covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover counselling services. Coverage varies, so it’s best to check with your provider directly to inquire if your plan covers services provided by a Registered Counselling Therapist.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected by law and by professional ethical standards. Everything you share in counselling remains confidential, with a few rare exceptions required by law (which we’ll review together in your first session).

What if I’m nervous about starting counselling?

It’s completely normal to feel unsure or nervous. Many people feel this way at first. My role is to create a calm, supportive space where you can explore what you’re experiencing without judgment or pressure.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide as much notice as possible. Please refer to our cancellation policy may apply for late changes or missed appointments.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin, counselling can help you gain clarity, build tools, and feel more grounded. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit — support is available at any stage.
